Why Boudoir?
Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I shoot boudoir photography. To me, it is so much more than photos. It’s about self-acceptance, body positivity, and fine art. It is about getting glammed up and allowing a day to be just about YOU. It’s about the transformation that takes place between the time a woman walks into my studio and walks back out. It is about feeling beautiful, something EVERY woman deserves.
I started shooting boudoir photography because I saw beauty in women that they didn’t see themselves, and I believed I could show them a side of themselves they had never seen or fully appreciated. So many women go through life feeling average and less than they are. They aren’t feeling beautiful because they think they are overweight, have too many stretch marks or have other insecurities about their bodies. The way a woman lights up seeing her photos for the first time, is such a privilege to witness, and has brought me to tears on more than one occasion. I knew that creating these amazing, sometimes unexpected, healing, positive, BEAUTIFUL images was what I wanted to do.
The Transformation
The transformation that takes place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience! When a woman arrives for her session, she is usually nervous. Most women are great at appearing confident, but they will later giggle and admit to feeling super nervous and maybe even had last minute panic thoughts of canceling their session. Once they settle into their seat and are in the hands of the hair and makeup artist, the transformation begins and nerves settle.
About an hour later, the shoot begins. We chat about the session and what what to expect from my coaching style, and we start with some “easy” poses to warm up. I will show the back of the camera to my client, and her face will brighten up as she exclaims, “WOW!!” Her confidence grows. She knows she’s looking her best and having fun with it is an added bonus to the excitement of seeing the final outcome!
By the time we finish the session and schedule a time for her to come back for her reveal, we’re friends. We’ve shared an experience that they will always remember. We’ve laughed and been silly, practiced our sexiest bedroom eyes and shared stories about our lives.
When my client comes in to see their photos for the first time, they often say, “That’s me!??” as their jaw drops. They are seeing themselves as they never have before. They get to see all those beautiful micro- expressions that they may never have even noticed. One of the amazing things about boudoir photography is being able to show my clients how others see them, a perspective that most of us don’t often get to witness.
For me, boudoir photography is a celebration of your body and who you are on the inside too! I take joy in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me via the link below with any questions you might have about this experience!
